It has become fashionable in Pakistan to claim that every policy of the government is bad. While the world acknowledges our role in trying to mediate a peace between the US and Iran, our social media brigades and some affiliated with the opposition are trying to diminish the leadership’s efforts. This is not an isolated trend, as past governments have also fallen victim to this tendency to always criticise, regardless of what is being done. If people are more nuanced, critiquing the bad while praising the good, the overall performance of our governments might actually improve. But when every move of the government of the day is opposed, hope of improvement dies as the rulers think that, regardless of if they do good or bad, they will be pilloried.

Ultimately, it is the ordinary people that suffer. Our leadership, and those who have supported their efforts, deserve kudos for trying to bring peace to the Middle East and the world.
