The government has announced a major reduction in fuel prices, cutting diesel and petrol by Rs135 and Rs12 per litre, respectively. This move comes at a time when inflationary pressures have significantly burdened the public, particularly affecting transportation and agriculture. These are two sectors where diesel plays a central role. Diesel is not just another fuel. It is the backbone of Pakistan’s economic activity. From trucks transporting essential goods across cities to tractors running in agricultural fields, its price directly influences the cost of living. However, the actual benefit to the ordinary citizen depends on whether this reduction is honestly passed down through the supply chain or absorbed by intermediaries.
