KARACHI: Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, said that Pakistan’s leadership is actively working to ensure not only the continuation of a ceasefire between Iran and the US but also a complete end to the conflict, expressing hope that stability would help steer the country out of the prevailing economic crisis.

In a video message on Thursday, Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari noted that the ongoing conflict between Iran and the US is having widespread economic repercussions across the globe, with Pakistan already feeling the impact in the form of rising inflation. Bilawal said that the burden of these economic effects is being borne by the people of Pakistan, as price hikes linked to the regional situation continue to strain household finances. He said that at the onset of the conflict, the federal government had provided up to a 50 per cent subsidy in an effort to cushion the immediate impact. He added that the Centre had also sought support from provincial governments to extend further relief measures to the public.

Responding to the federal appeal, he said the provincial administrations introduced subsidies for transporters to stabilise fares. Highlighting initiatives taken in Sindh, the PPP chairman said financial assistance was being provided to small farmers owning up to 25 acres of land through the Benazir Hari Card programme. He said the Sindh government announced a “Peoples Fuel Subsidy” for motorcycle users in the province. He added that free home solar kits were also being distributed to households living below the poverty line. Bilawal maintained that the Sindh government was striving to provide maximum relief to citizens amid prevailing economic challenges.
