ISLAMABAD: A sub-committee of the Senate Standing Committee on Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety has expressed concern over the failure to implement its directives issued six months ago, warning of strict action if compliance is not ensured within seven days.

A meeting, chaired by Senator Rubina Qaimkhani and held at the Parliament House here on Thursday, issued a stern warning to the ministry concerned and Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal for not adhering to parliamentary instructions. The committee directed them to ensure full implementation within a week. The committee noted with concern that directives issued on October 10, 2025 remain unimplemented despite the passage of more than six months. It also pointed to financial irregularities worth millions of rupees in the Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal and sought a detailed recovery plan within seven days.

The irregularities included violations in procurement processes, unlawful promotions leading to salary payments and other unauthorised disbursements. The sub-committee ordered the annulment of allegedly illegal promotions made in 2018 and directed that a formal notification be issued in this regard. It further instructed that action be taken against responsible officials and that references be sent to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). Several appointments and promotions were declared illegal, with directives to cancel them, recover salaries and benefits, and initiate proceedings against an officer allegedly holding a fake degree. The sub-committee also revealed that 41 officers had been deprived of promotions for periods ranging from 12 to 22 years in violation of a Supreme Court ruling. It ordered immediate promotions and payment of pending dues to the affected officials.

Rubina warned that failure to fully comply within seven days would result in the matter being referred to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), FIA, auditor general, prime minister and chairman Senate. The next meeting will be convened after the receipt of compliance report. The sub-committee was informed that an investigation into fake degree cases in Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal is currently underway, with a formal inquiry initiated against three officers. Members emphasized the need to maintain departmental integrity through strict verification processes.
