PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Thursday sought responses from the commissioner Hazara, deputy commissioners of Swat, Buner and Orakzai as well as the provincial government in a writ petition filed against illegal glacier cutting in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The case was heard by a two-member bench comprising Justice Ijaz Anwar and Justice Inamullah Khan.Counsel for the petitioner Tariq Afghan Advocate along with the additional advocate general (AAG) appeared before the court.
During proceedings, the petitioner’s counsel informed the court that glacier cutting was taking place in mountainous areas during the summer season, which was not only illegal but also increased the risk of flooding. He argued that such activities were contributing to climate change and adversely affecting the natural environment.
