BARA: Elders of the Bar Qambarkhel tribe on Thursday opposed any plan to acquire their private land for launching new projects.

Shamsher Khan, Zahir Shah Afridi, Murad Saqi Afridi, Nazeer Khan, Muhammad Rehman and Abdul Hakeem voiced their concerns at the plan while addressing a press conference.

They alleged that a leaseholder, identified as Sohail, a resident of Swabi, along with officials of the provincial Mines and Minerals Department and members of a sub-clan of the Kukikhel tribe, was attempting to acquire the land.

The speakers said that several government development projects had already been completed on the land in question.

They added that if the government required land for any future projects, it should formally consult the Bar Qambarkhel tribe.
