At least eight buffaloes worth hundreds of thousands of rupees burnt to death after a fire broke out in a cattle pen near a graveyard on Rice Godown Road in Sherpao Colony in Landhi.

According to officials, three fire tenders of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation fire brigade reached the scene and controlled the fire after nearly an hour. Rescue officials said the fire erupted suddenly and quickly engulfed the entire shed. The staff present at the site initially tried to control the fire on their own and began shifting livestock to safety.

Despite efforts, eight buffaloes perished in the fire. Several other animals were rescued. The blaze also destroyed the shed structure, fodder and other material.

Fire brigade officials stated that nearby shops and houses were also saved from the spreading flames due to timely action. The exact cause of the fire and the total financial loss could not be immediately determined.
