Sardar Abdul Rahim, the Sindh secretary general of the Pakistan Muslim League-Functional, has paid rich tribute to Pir Sibghatullah Shah II, widely known as Shaheed Soorhya Badshah, for leading a struggle for the freedom of his people.

Addressing a ceremony held in Karachi on Sunday to commemorate the life and sacrifices of Soorhya Badshah, Rahim called him ‘Imam of the revolution’. He added that Soorhya Badshah was executed at the age of just 32 for trying to free his people and homeland.

The event was organised by Hur Jamaat Karachi and Hur Forum Karachi. Soorhya Badshah never bowed before the oppression and brutality of the British colonial rule and embraced martyrdom with exceptional courage and determination, the PML-F leader said.

He added that Pakistan’s independence was achieved through unparalleled sacrifices of Soorhya Badshah and thousands of his followers. He added that the movement led by Soorhya Badshah played a decisive role in forcing the British colonial authorities to retreat from the region. During the struggle, thousands of fighters laid down their lives or endured severe hardships, including imprisonment, he recalled.

Even today, members of the Hur community continued to serve in the defence of the country’s borders, helping ensure national security, Rahim said. He called for the inclusion of Soorhya Badshah’s struggle and sacrifices in the national curriculum so that future generations may be inspired by his spirit of freedom and contribute towards the country’s genuine independence, development and prosperity.

He stated that although people considered Soorhya Badshah a great national hero, he should be officially recognised as such by the state, and his martyrdom day should be observed at the official level.

Concluding his address, he pledged to continue his struggle until the mission of Soorhya Badshah was fully realised. The ceremony was also addressed by other PML-F leaders and members of the Hur community, including Waqar Jatt, Prof Syed Sardar Shah, Prof Noor Muhammad Arain, Prof Dr Jalal Bhayo, Muhammad Khan Mangrio, Prof Abdul Haleem Dars, Hafiz Younis Bhabhro, RB Rajar, Syed Dost Ali Shah and Syed Wali Warsi who paid rich tribute to the services and sacrifices of Soorhya Badshah.
