The Sindh Rangers and Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of the police carried out a joint operation in the SITE Area and arrested a highly wanted militant affiliated with Fitna al-Khawarij on Sunday.
The suspect, identified as Noor Alam, alias Wafadar, son of Marwat Khan, was taken into custody along with weapons, ammunition and explosive material. According to officials, the arrested militant joined Mufti Noor Wali’s group in 2014 and, after receiving training, was involved in multiple attacks on security forces’ check posts in South Waziristan.
During initial interrogation, the suspect confessed to participating in an attack on a Levies check post in Makeen in 2021 along with his accomplices. Two of his associates were killed in retaliatory fire by security forces while the group abducted six Levies personnel.
Officials further revealed that the militant, along with his accomplices Khan Muhammad, alias Khorai, and Naqeebullah, alias Muawiya, was involved in planting improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and carrying out blasts targeting security forces’ routes in Waziristan.
During operations in South Waziristan, the suspect fled to Afghanistan along with his associates and later, on the directives of Fitna al-Khawarij commander Bilal, alias Toofan, began facilitating movement of militants from Afghanistan to South Waziristan for terrorist activities.
A resident of South Waziristan, the suspect had been hiding in Karachi for some time and was reportedly organising a network to carry out terrorist activities in the city on the instructions of his handlers in Afghanistan.
Rangers officials said raids were under way to arrest other accomplices of the suspect. The arrested militant was handed over to the CTD along with recovered arms and explosives for initiation of legal proceedings.
The Rangers urged the citizens to report suspicious activities to the nearest Rangers check post, helpline 1101 or via WhatsApp assuring that the informants’ identities would be kept confidential.
