Dowry assistance: Cheques distributed among 92 couples in Lower Dir

TIMERGARA: The Lower Dir Zakat Department on Sunday distributed dowry assistance cheques worth Rs200,000 each among 92 deserving couples during a ceremony held at the Timergara rest house.

The event was attended by members of the provincial assembly (MPAs) Malik Liaqat Ali and Ubaidur-Rehman, chairman district Zakat committee Imran Jan, district Zakat officer Shahi Rome, chairman Tehsil Balambat Shakir Shoaib, former president of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Tehsil Balambat Hajjaj Khan, Village chairman engineer Qazi Latifullah, Zakat chairman of the Village Council Peto Dara, Idrees Khan and other social and political figures.

Speaking on the occasion, the speakers said that in the past, Zakat funds were often used as a political bribe, distributed among relatives and supporters to strengthen the vote bank rather than reaching the truly deserving people.

They said that under the vision of the founding chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, their focus was on ensuring that financial assistance reaches those who genuinely deserve it.The speakers added that transparent distribution of Zakat funds reflects the commitment to transparency and accountability in welfare programmes.

They claimed that the beneficiaries were selected from across the district under the dowry fund scheme following proper procedures. A total of Rs18.4 million was distributed among 92 couples to support them in starting their married life with dignity.
