Young engineers showcase creations at GIK fly competition

SWABI: The three-day national design, build and fly competition at Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology attracted young engineers from across the country while participating in the contest and flying their own designed and built remote control aeroplanes on the spot.

The officials of the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC), Kamra were judges, seeing the work of the young engineers and guiding them on how they could make their work and research more result-oriented and according to the demand of the country.

The competition was financed by Higher Education Commission (HEC) and organised by the GIK Institute Student Society, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA).The AIAA members said that a total 27 teams belonging to universities of the country participated in the contest. They were selected after a rigorous process of shortlisting to make the competition more memorable and research-oriented.

Asim Rashid Malik, director-general of aviation, was chief guest at the concluding ceremony.The PAC experts appreciated the young engineers’ efforts in building and flying their aircraft and said that the competition provides a very effective platform for initiative and research, which will be very helpful in building aircraft according to our needs in the future.

They said that these competitions were aimed at developing the capabilities of young engineers and encouraging them to take serious interest in building aircraft in the future while inspiring them, so that Pakistan can catch up with the pace of modern technology or the latest developments in aircraft making in a highly competitive field.
