KOHAT: Unidentified persons hurled a hand grenade on a mosque in the Nusratkhel area of Kohat and opened fire on the main gate of the mosque’s Imam’s house, police officials said on Sunday. The Al-Hadith Mosque
District Police Officer (DPO), Kohat, Shahbaz Ilahi said the explosion caused partial damage to the mosque hall and its main gate. No loss of life or injuries were reported in the incident. The mosque was inaugurated one week ago.
Following the attack, a heavy contingent of police led by SHO Cantt Police Station Khasar Farid reached the scene and launched a search operation to trace the suspects. Law-enforcement agencies sealed off the surrounding area and collected evidence from the site.
The Cantt Police and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) have jointly registered a case and initiated a full investigation into the incident.DPO Shahbaz Ilahi said that no element of terrorism has been found so far, adding that authorities were thoroughly probing all possible angles to determine the motive behind the attack.
The residents of the area expressed concern over the incident, while police have assured the public that security has been strengthened and the perpetrators will be brought to justice soon.
