Fans of "Game of Thrones" have a new reason to brace for surprises, as sequels to the hit series are reportedly in development, potentially premiering before George RR Martin finishes "The Winds of Winter", Screen Rant has reported.
Since the main show ended in 2019, multiple spin-offs have been planned, with "House of the Dragon" leading the way. Its third season is set for summer 2026, while "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" will arrive in January 2026, based on Martin’s short novellas.
In November 2025, Martin confirmed that, beyond these prequels, “a sequel or two” are in the works. Reports suggest at least five or six additional spin-offs are in early development, keeping the world of Westeros alive on screen.
However, a harsh truth emerges: with Martin still working on "The Winds of Winter", the sixth book in his "A Song of Ice and Fire" series, in progress since 2011, audiences may see new live-action adventures before the original story concludes. The final volume, "A Dream of Spring", is also pending.
Martin’s expansive universe means the sequels could range from large-scale continuations, akin to a new trilogy of "Star Wars", to smaller stories set after the original series. Regardless, the fact remains that "Game of Thrones" may continue on screen ahead of its literary conclusion, a prospect both exciting and disconcerting for fans who have waited years for the books’ official ending.
This development highlights the growing challenge of adapting a sprawling fantasy world: the story of Westeros is simply too vast to remain confined to its past, even as readers eagerly await the final chapters of Martin’s epic saga.
