PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court Bar Association and the District Bar Association Peshawar on Wednesday boycotted court proceedings to protest against the suicide bombing outside the Islamabad District Courts.
No lawyer appeared before the courts, disrupting judicial proceedings throughout the day.
The boycott was observed in condemnation of the suicide attack that claimed at least 12 lives and left several others injured outside the Islamabad courts. The office-bearers of the Peshawar High Court Bar Association and District Bar Association Peshawar, including Ameenur Rehman, Yousafzai, Qaiser Zaman, Ashfaq Daudzai and senior lawyers condemned the incident.
The bar representatives expressed sorrow over the loss of lives and criticized the federal government for failing to maintain law and order. They said that instead of addressing the deteriorating security situation, the government was preoccupied with unnecessary constitutional amendments.
The bar associations demanded strict action against those responsible for the attack and called for immediate steps to ensure the safety of citizens. The lawyers described the incident as the government’s complete failure to ensure security, even in the federal capital.
The associations also urged the provincial government to enhance security measures at all courts in Peshawar to prevent any similar incidents in the future.
