Experts have urged the corporate sector in Pakistan to strengthen their human resource departments to ensure better new recruitments and continued grooming of the employees to prepare them for more responsible jobs in the organisation.
Human resource management has remained the weakest link in our corporate sector. The Seth culture still dominates in appointments and the removal of employees. The best-performing companies in Pakistan are striving hard to strengthen their HR departments and fully delegate to them the power to hire, fire, and groom employees. But the majority still operate in old ways where the owner calls the shots in hiring and firing.
Companies or groups having a workforce of 300 or more employees should shun the practice of employing people on the whims and judgment of a single person, as successful companies worldwide hire and groom their staff through a strong HR department. HR departments establish a transparent, efficient talent-hunting process for all departments and sister concerns of the company. They strategically map long-term talent and leadership needs and aim to ensure that talent is carefully groomed through the right opportunities and plans. More importantly, they analyse leadership qualities in employees during selection and promotion, and establish compensation and benefits policies that promote the right results and behaviour.
The HR department measures employee competence through well-defined key performance indicators. They implement a demand model linked to key company departments, including business strategy, productivity, and technology. HR departments should define clear performance criteria for each function and regularly apply them in feedback and promotion processes. They should also institute a rewards and benefits policy that supports the desired results and behaviour.
It is the HR team's duty to ensure workforce flexibility so that, if needed, a worker from one department can be shifted to another without impacting the efficiency of work in either department
Prudent companies invest significantly in developing company culture through their HR departments. HR then measures the improvement that the behaviour change has brought. The HR department is responsible for a clear communication and social media policy that benefits the company. He said that the presence of the company in social media is monitored and any negative impressions are immediately countered effectively. He said it is essential to deploy competent employees for social media activities. Competent HR managers establish a management flow process to define actions to improv engagement.
The most difficult task HR teams face is gaining recognition for their crucial role in the company's overall performance. Lasting success in the corporate sector comes from constant grooming, monitoring, and the right promotions and production efficiency, supported by a strong HR department. All employees should recognise the importance and value of HR professionals. Individual brilliance also boosts some companies, but only in rare cases and without sustainable consistency. The entire prudent HR philosophy must be applied for meaningful, all-weather success.
To nurture a company for sustainable growth, HR departments advise management to invest systematically in developing senior employees' capabilities. On their part, HR teams encourage cross-cultural team-building activities and cultural awareness training for diverse employee groups. The junior employees are encouraged to share their opinions, which are given due respect, so that this process continues.
After interaction with the concerned department, the HR team outlines a recruitment strategy for different jobs, including entry-level and mid-level roles. The HR team ensures that employees understand the high value of the sponsors. They discreetly spread positive points and advantages of remaining loyal to the company. New entrants to the workforce are thoroughly briefed on the company's culture.
The most difficult task the HR team performs is managing labour costs, flexibility and restructuring. The HR managers ensure full transparency on workforce supply and demand. When the supply is in excess, they hire the best and most efficient; when demand for workers is low, competence is the only criterion they apply, and they fire the workers. It is the HR team's duty to ensure workforce flexibility so that, if needed, a worker from one department can be shifted to another without impacting the efficiency of work in either department.
