Rs4.5bn allocated for uplift of Mohmand Dam-affected areas

PESHAWAR: WAPDA has allocated Rs4.5 billion for the socio-economic development of areas affected by the Mohmand Dam Hydropower Project. The development programme is being implemented in two phases.

Under Phase-I, projects worth Rs1.9 billion are progressing rapidly, with a primary focus on infrastructure improvement, water supply schemes, education and the energy sector. A meeting was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Mohmand to review progress on public welfare projects being carried out under the WAPDA Mohmand Dam Hydropower Project.

The meeting was chaired by the Additional Deputy Commissioner and attended by WAPDA officials, Member National Assembly Sajid Khan, Member Provincial Assembly Mehmood Sher, and representatives of the Public Health Engineering, Elementary and Secondary Education, and Communication & Works departments of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Key ongoing projects include the Yousaf Baba-Abazai Road, costing Rs524 million, and the Mullagori Water Supply Scheme, worth Rs74 million. Both projects aim to improve connectivity and provide access to clean drinking water.

The meeting was informed that construction of three new schools, costing Rs87 million, in Daryab Kot, Shaheed Banda and Malik Taj Mir areas of Mohmand district will commence soon.WAPDA emphasized that the provincial government departments are the executing agencies and should ensure that all works are carried out according to the highest quality standards. The departments were also urged to proactively address issues and impediments to ensure smooth progress and timely completion of the projects.
