WANA: A jirga of the Ahmadzai Wazir tribe was convened in Wana, the headquarters of Lower South Waziristan, to deliberate on the worsening security situation and explore ways to restore lasting peace and stability in the region.
A good number of tribal elders, community leaders, elected representatives, and people from various walks of life attended the jirga.The participants expressed concern over the deteriorating law and order and demanded the immediate and safe recovery of local footballer Sabeel Noor, who was allegedly abducted from the Doag Football Ground a day earlier.
The incident has caused anxiety and anger among the residents.Addressing the jirga, MNA Zubair Wazir, MPA Ajab Gul Wazir, Maulana Rafiuddin, Malik Roshan, Malik Permala Khan, Malik Azizullah, Malik Khyal Muhammad, social activist Abdul Rahman, and Malik Sanaullah said that South Waziristan, particularly Wana, had witnessed a renewed wave of
insecurity over the past two years.
They said that several religious scholars, tribal elders, policemen, youth, and civilians lost their lives in terrorist attacks and other violent incidents during this period.The speakers maintained that the local population has been bearing the brunt of lawlessness in the region.
They stated that the tribespeople paid a heavy price, suffering not only the loss of lives but also the destruction of homes, properties, and businesses.They said that bomb blasts, targeted killings, and drone strikes had left deep scars on the social fabric of the region, devastating countless families and leaving many women widowed and children orphaned.
Calling for urgent action, the speakers urged the government to take immediate, concrete, and effective measures to establish a durable peace in the region.They said the local population was prepared to cooperate fully in efforts aimed at restoring law and order, but stressed that safeguarding the lives and property of citizens remained the responsibility of state institutions.
The jirga participants emphasized that the people of South Waziristan could no longer afford further bloodshed, instability, and displacement. They reiterated their aspiration for peace, development, and prosperity, and underscored the importance of utilizing tribal traditions and collective wisdom to address the region’s challenges.
