NOWSHERA: A police constable was martyred and a suspected kidnapper was killed during a police operation to recover an abducted child in the Speen Kandaray area of Ziarat Kaka Sahib in Nowshera on Wednesday.
According to police officials, kidnappers opened fire on a police team conducting a raid to rescue the abducted child. During the exchange of fire, Police Constable Riwayat Khan embraced martyrdom. Police returned the fire, killing one of the kidnappers on the spot.
Following the incident, heavy police contingent were deployed to the area and a search operation was launched against the remaining suspects involved in the kidnapping. The body of the martyred cop was shifted to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital for medico-legal formalities. Later, funeral prayers for Constable Riwayat Khan were offered with full state honours at the Police Lines in Nowshera.
The funeral was attended by Regional Police Officer , Mardan, Qasim Ali Khan, District Police Officer , Nowshera, Ahmad Shah, senior police officials, political and social figures, and a large number of local residents.Later, the body was shifted to Sohbat Koroona Kalanjar, where the martyred cop laid to rest.
