ISLAMABAD: The Federal Constitutional Court (FCC) has disposed of a petition filed by the parents of Ayesha, a 19-year-old girl from Lahore who embraced Islam of her own free will, seeking her custody. The court allowed her to live according to her own wishes. The court observed that if the girl is an adult and of sound mind, she has the full legal right to live wherever she chooses. A two-member bench headed by Justice Aamer Farooq heard the case on Thursday.

It is pertinent to mention here that Sonia, a resident of Lahore, had converted to Islam and changed her name to Ayesha. She had recorded a statement before the court saying that her parents were putting severe pressure on her to renounce Islam and revert to Christianity.

Following this statement, the court had ordered a medical test to determine her age.
