ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has sought a response from the Inspector General of Police Islamabad on a petition filed by the sister of an overseas Pakistani citizen who is returning from abroad to face multiple cases registered against him.

Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro issued a written order on the petition filed by Waqar-un-Nisa, the sister of a citizen returning from Oman.

The petition requested the court to direct the Islamabad police to designate an officer to ensure the citizen’s protection from the airport until his production before the relevant court.

The court directed the police to proceed with the matter in accordance with the law and issued notices to the IGP Islamabad and DIG Islamabad seeking their responses.

According to the petitioner, her brother is returning from Oman and she fears he may be killed in a fake encounter.

The overseas Pakistani citizen has been named in five different cases.

The petitioner’s counsel submitted before the court that the citizen is ready to return and face the law, but requested that protection be provided through a nominated police officer. The court adjourned further hearing after issuing notices to the respondents.
