LAHORE : City Traffic Police Lahore has finalised a comprehensive traffic management plan for six cattle markets set up across the provincial capital ahead of Eidul Azha, with more than 200 traffic wardens deployed to facilitate citizens and livestock traders. According to Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi, zonal officers of City and Sadar divisions will supervise all traffic arrangements to ensure smooth flow of vehicles around the cattle markets. Under the traffic plan, six DSPs, 18 sector in-charges and over 200 wardens have been assigned duties at the designated sites. Six forklifts will also remain operational to remove wrongly parked vehicles and encroachments.

Meanwhile, City Traffic Police Lahore has imposed a complete ban on the entry of loader rickshaws and Qingqi rickshaws on Canal Road in a move aimed at ensuring the safety of commuters and protecting lives and property. According to CTO Lahore Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi, additional traffic personnel have been deployed at key points to enforce the restrictions and prevent the entry of the vehicles onto the busy thoroughfare. The CTO said loader rickshaws were often carrying iron rods, steel pipes and other goods in an extremely dangerous manner, posing serious risks to other motorists. He warned that in case of an accident, such vehicles could prove fatal. Special enforcement teams have been stationed at Dharampura, Mughalpura and Thokar Niaz Baig to ensure strict implementation of the orders.

The traffic police chief also ordered a crackdown against auto-rickshaw drivers allowing passengers to sit beside them, terming the practice hazardous.

Meanwhile, CCPO Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana has said that comprehensive security arrangements will be ensured for cattle markets, traders and buyers during Eid ul Azha.

He stated that the security measures for cattle markets established for the sale and purchase of sacrificial animals ahead of Eid ul Azha have been heightened. Six officially approved cattle markets have been set up at Saggian Road near the Sui Gas Office Shahdara, Sports Complex Adda Rakh Chabeel, Bedian Road near Paragon City, LDA City Kahna Kacha, Shahpur Kaanjran and Raiwind near Haveli Markaz.
