A couple lost their lives after a fire broke out inside their home in New Karachi on Sunday morning, rescue officials said. The fire erupted suddenly in House No. A-14 near the Lala Gul Park in New Karachi Sector 11-A and quickly intensified, engulfing parts of the house.
A fire engine of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s Fire Brigade reached the scene and initiated the firefighting operation. A man suffered severe burns and died on the spot, while a woman suffered critical burn injuries and was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
The deceased were identified as Arshad, 40, and his wife, Shaista, 36. The couple is survived by two children. Fire brigade officials managed to bring the fire under control after some time, but the household’s belongings got completely destroyed. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
