The Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi, in collaboration with the German consulate general hosted a special screening of the internationally acclaimed documentary ‘INTERTANGO’ celebrating the power of art, dance and intercultural dialogue.

Following the screening, guests participated in an engaging question and answer session with Director & Screenwriter Hanne Weyh, followed by an open dance floor and an introductory tango lesson for beginners. The event brought together distinguished guests, art enthusiasts, diplomats and members of the cultural community with tango performances.

The screening was attended by ACP President Mohammad Ahmed Shah, and German Consul General Thomas E. Schultze. Addressing the audience, the ACP president welcomed the German diplomat and said Pakistan and Germany shared strong cultural relations. He noted that through culture, fine arts, music, literature, theatre and educational activities, both nations had successfully strengthened mutual understanding, harmony, and friendship over the years.

The German consul general said cultural exchange held special significance as Pakistan and Germany prepared to celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations in 2026. He remarked that such initiatives strengthen understanding between societies and foster deeper human connections.

Weyh presented tango as a powerful intercultural phenomenon capable of transcending geographical and cultural boundaries. The documentary followed the journeys of Naoko from Japan, who becomes a Tango DJ in Buenos Aires; Iftikhar from Pakistan, who teaches Tango in Karachi; and Mela and Rodrigo, who struggle to balance their artistic careers with personal life — all connected through their passion for Tango.
