LAHORE:Punjab Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique has said that PMLN believes in the strengthening of local bodies and we will hold local government elections as soon as possible. The Election Commission is doing its job.

The minister expressed these views while addressing a roundtable on local government elections on Tuesday. MPA and Chairman Punjab Land Record Authority (PLRA) Tariq Subhani also attended the conference.

Zeeshan Rafique said that CM Punjab has formed a committee to prepare the Local Government Act which worked continuously to prepare the draft of law. "It is a fact that the highest number of elections were held in Punjab during the PMLN governments", he reminded. "Unfortunately, not only 58,000 LG representatives were suspended through a notification in 2018, but the LG system was not restored even after the Supreme Court’s decision". Zeeshan Rafique said that it is the standing policy of the PMLN not to disturb the functioning local body system. “I have assured at every forum that the elections will be held as per the act that has been made", he pledged. "Now the Election Act has been made and the LG Department has completed the delimitation process within the stipulated time", he added. He said that there will be no delay in the future either as per the instructions of the Election Commission of Pakistan.
