17,167 drug dealers arrested across province

LAHORE:Under Chief Minister’s 'Drug-Free Punjab' vision, Punjab Police’s operations against drug peddlers and smugglers are continuing across the province with increased pace.

On the instructions of Inspector General Police Punjab, Abdul Kareem Punjab Police has further intensified the crackdown against major drug dealers, smugglers, and elements involved in the supply chain.

Spokesperson for Punjab Police, while sharing details, said that 17,167 drug peddlers were arrested across the province during the current year, while 17,171 cases were registered.During the operations, 9,285 kg charas, 1,002 kg heroin, 505 kg ice, 510 kg opium, and more than 245,000 litre liquor were recovered from the possession of the accused.

In Lahore, 2,102 drug peddlers were arrested during the current year, while 2,037 cases were registered. During operations in Lahore, 723 kg charas, 74 kg heroin, 180 kg ice, 21 kg opium and 12,146 litre liquor were recovered.

IGP directed that all individuals involved in the drug supply chain be brought to justice and awarded strict punishments under the law. He instructed that operations against those engaged in drug trafficking in and around educational institutions, including colleges, universities, and hostels, be intensified. He also ordered strict legal action against those involved in the online sale and purchase of narcotics.
