LAHORE: The Punjab Planning & Development Board under the Punjab Clean Air Programme (PCAP), convened a multi-stakeholder consultation workshop on ‘Development of battery waste management rules and identification of strategies for ecosystem development”, in Lahore.

According to a press release issued Tuesday, the initiative forms part of the Punjab government’s broader efforts to promote environmental protection, address smog and advance a cleaner, greener Punjab. While the province continues to prioritise the promotion of clean energy, there is a growing recognition of the need to proactively address associated environmental challenges, particularly those related to battery waste.

The workshop brought together representatives from relevant government departments, industry stakeholders, environmental experts and civil society. The session included technical presentations on the battery industry landscape, stakeholder mapping and consultation methodologies. An international perspective was also incorporated through a detailed presentation by Spain-based company Aimplas, which shared insights on European systems, regulatory frameworks, and best practices for battery waste management.
