RAWALPINDI: The Special Anti-Terrorism Court of Rawalpindi has sent 41 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers, arrested while resisting the police on Adiala Road, to Adiala Jail on a 14-day judicial remand.

The court rejected the police’s request for further physical remand of the accused.

On Thursday, the Saddar Baruni Police presented the accused before the court under tight security and requested further physical remand. However, the court rejected the request and sent all the arrested accused to jail.

The accused are also charged with violating Section 144, forming an unlawful assembly, resisting the police, and attacking police personnel. Earlier, the court had sent the accused to Saddar Baruni Police Station on an eight-day physical remand. The accused are alleged to have gathered on Adiala Road despite the imposition of Section 144 and openly violated the restriction. When the police warned them to disperse, the accused allegedly attacked the police, and nine police personnel were injured due to stone-pelting.
