LAHORE: The Sports Board Punjab (SBP) has announced a series of mega sports events throughout April aimed at tracing and nurturing fresh athletic talent across the province.
These views were expressed by Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Punjab Muhammad Ali while speaking at the prize distribution ceremony of the All-Pakistan Inter-Board Athletics Championship at Punjab Stadium here. Secretary Sports Punjab further emphasised the importance of providing platforms for young athletes.
He praised the exceptional performances witnessed during the competition, particularly that of Ataullah from Peshawar, who set records in the 100m (10.56s), 200m (21.39s), and 400m (48.20s) sprints. In recognition of his achievements, Ataullah was awarded a cash prize of Rs 50,000.
Muhammad Ali noted that the SBP trials and events are being conducted with transparency and merit, ensuring equal opportunities for athletes from all backgrounds. He added that Punjab is blessed with immense sports potential, and the department is giving equal importance to all disciplines, not just cricket or mainstream sports.
The April sports calendar is expected to feature athletics, team sports and specialised talent hunts, reinforcing Punjab’s role as a hub for youth development and sporting excellence, he added.
