Tim David, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batter, has been fined 25% of his match fee and has also accumulated one demerit point for a Level 1 code of conduct breach in his side’s win over Mumbai Indians (MI).

According to an IPL release, David breached Article 2.4, which relates to “disobeying an umpire’s instruction during a match” on two occasions. The first incident occurred when the umpires changed the ball after 17.2 overs in RCB’s batting innings. The release stated that David “wanted to have a look at the ball and did not hand it over despite being repeatedly asked to do so.”

TV visuals at the time showed David closely inspecting the changed ball and jugging it with one hand. Kannur Swaroopanand, one of the two on-field umpires in Sunday’s game, could be seen trying to stop David from juggling the ball. The other on-field umpire Virender Sharma then joined in to retrieve the ball.
