The rapid expansion of social media has transformed communication and access to information. However, it has also accelerated the spread of digital misinformation. False narratives, manipulated images and misleading content often circulate widely before accurate information can correct them. Such misinformation not only confuses the public but also undermines trust in credible institutions and media organisations. In societies where digital literacy remains limited, many individuals unknowingly share unverified information, further amplifying the problem. Addressing this challenge requires coordinated efforts.
Media organisations must maintain strict standards of verification, while technology platforms should improve mechanisms to identify and limit misleading content. Educational institutions should also promote digital literacy so that citizens can critically evaluate information online. Responsible information sharing is essential in the digital age. Combating misinformation is not only the responsibility of institutions but also of individuals who must verify sources before sharing content.
