SUKKUR: Taking notice of the alleged suicide by the chief medical officer of Mithi Civil Hospital, the Sindh health secretary has constituted a committee to investigate the matter.
As per reports, Chief Medical Officer of Mithi Civil Hospital, Dr Abdul Karim Sheikh (52) ended his life by hanging himself in the hospital’s residential quarters on Sunday.
About an hour before committing suicide, Dr Karim wrote a note and shared voice messages with various people about those responsible for his death.
He alleged several doctors and employees of the hospital for torturing him that led him to take his own life.
He also pleaded his innocence and urged the community to know the truth behind his tragic decision.
Talking to the media, Civil Surgeon of Mithi Civil Hospital, Dr Haresh Jagani, said that Dr Sheikh had no allegations of adultery against him, however, he had complained about verbal abuse and harassment by some male staff nurse three days ago.
SHO Mithi police station Mubarak Rajar said upon receiving information about Dr Sheikh’s suicidal messages, they rushed to his residential quarters to save him. Upon arrival, they found the gate and room doors locked
from inside and when they entered the premises they found Dr Sheikh’s body hanging with a ceiling, he added.
The administration stated that the autopsy will be conducted in the presence of Dr Sheikh’s family members.
Meanwhile, on the orders of the provincial health minister, Secretary Health (Sindh) Tahir Sangi has set up a probe committee led by DG Health Sindh, additional director and representative of the deputy commissioner Tharparkar with the direction to investigate the matter and furnish a report within three days.
