DERA GHAZI KHAN: The passing of Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa marks the end of an era of tolerant and dignified politics.
Dera Ghazi Khan witnessed a profound void today — not merely the loss of an individual, but the closing of an entire intellectual and political tradition. A chapter defined by compassion, restraint, and civility in politics has come to an end, one that shaped the political consciousness of generations.
The funeral prayers of Khosa were offered at the local Sports Stadium on Friday, attended by a large number of political, social, administrative, and public figures who gathered to pay their respects. Among those present were Sardar Saleem Haider, governor of Punjab, Nasir Mahmood Khosa, Sardar Latif Khosa, Muhammad Hanif Pitafi, Sardar Jamal Khan Leghari, Makhdoom Javed Hashmi, Sardar Amjad Farooq Khosa, Sardar Mohsin Atta Khosa, former MPA Abdul Aleem Shah, Commissioner Ashfaq Ahmed, RPO Azhar Akram, Deputy Commissioner Usman Khalid, Rana Muhammad Iqbal, Mirza Zafar Iqbal, Malik Sadiq Khohawar, Dr Mahmood Sheikh, Chaudhry Haji Gulfam, Sheikh Farhan Riaz, and Waseem Ahmed Qazi, among others.
Saleem expressed condolences, stating that the void created by Khosa’s passing would not be filled for a long time. He paid tribute to the late leader’s political and social contributions, describing him as a wise statesman, a compassionate leader, and a man of unwavering principles. He added that Khosa consistently upheld decency, patience, and public service as the core of his politics, and that his intellectual, political, and social legacy would be remembered for years to come.
Security and administrative arrangements at the funeral were comprehensive and effective. The atmosphere remained deeply mournful, with tearful eyes and heavy hearts reflecting the collective grief of those in attendance.
