The Benazir Income Support Programme’s primary objective is to provide funds to individuals who are not able to afford basic needs. Nevertheless, its system has a grave issue. I reside in Loralai, Balochistan and I have observed that there are some families who are rich or financially stable but are somehow getting money through the BISP. The cash they obtain is supposed to be for the poor. As far as I am aware, the BISP takes a survey to determine who should receive assistance. However, when the list includes rich families, then there is something wrong. Maybe the data is old or appropriate checking is lacking. Maybe there is favouritism.
Regardless of the motive, the outcome is injustice and the poor are the main casualty. There are so many people who deserve assistance but do not receive it. The government needs to enhance the survey system. Information must be accurate and verification thorough.
