LAHORE : A large number of city roads turned fragile due to absence of a proper repair and maintenance from the relevant departments.
It was often witnessed that LDA DG, Commissioner Lahore, Chief Officer MCL, Deputy Commissioner Lahore and other senior officers visited the city localities but may be their luxury vehicles didn’t feel the road bumps or the bureaucrats didn’t want to see the dilapidated and broken roads.
CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz has allocated hefty funds for road rehabilitation for the provincial capital and the authorities concerned claimed to have completed rehabilitation of hundreds of roads.
Giving example, a citizen Farhan Shaukat Hanjra said the construction work on a road in Sant Nagar near the Sports Complex in Data Ganj Bakhsh Town was started but left incomplete.
The site lies right behind the Punjab Civil Secretariat, home to the provincial bureaucracy, which makes the delay even more striking in the eyes of residents.
The project started in the first week of December 2025 when workers uprooted a well carpeted road to replace it with tiles, he said adding as of February 19, 2026, the road remained unfinished, leaving residents frustrated with the illogical delay.
Rana Tanveer, another local said the road was already in good condition and did not require rehabilitation. Criticizing the district administration, he said the half done work caused serious inconvenience in the area. Community members have urged authorities to take notice and ensure the task is completed quickly.
The local residents said people were upset because of the delay and elderly people face difficulty walking on the incomplete street. They appealed the CM Punjab to visit the area of Islampura herself and see the reality with her own eyes.
Similarly, Ghazan Road, a key link between Main Boulevard Johar Town, PIA Road and College Road was deteriorating for the last many months and more than two dozen pits and potholes have appeared, forcing residents to fill them with debris to ease traffic flow.
Iftikhar Ahmed, a daily commuter, said he narrowly avoided an accident when his car got stuck in a pothole on this busy road. He noted that the road was rebuilt two years ago and patched again before this monsoon, but the poor quality of work did not survive the rains.
Shahid Malik, a lawyer, said the poor condition of Ghazan Road caused congestion, delays and vehicle damage. Dr Imdad, a town planner, warned that broken roads worsen air pollution during smog season due to slow-moving traffic, urging a permanent solution instead of repetitive patchwork.
Similar conditions were observed on several roads in Johar Town, Township, Green Town, Faisal Town, Allama Iqbal Town, Sabzazar, Muslim Town, Shadman, Samanabad, Shah Jamal, Gulshan-i-Ravi, Tajpura, Shadbagh and Shahdara.
The scribe tried to get official version from LDA’s project director concerned but he didn’t bother to reply.
Meanwhile, the LDA DG Tahir Farooq visited different areas of the city, including Ferozepur Road, General Hospital, Khayaban Jinnah and other areas.
He made a detailed visit to Chungi Amar Sidhu to Kalma Chowk on Ferozepur Road. LDA DG directed the Nespak team to design the remodeling outside the General Hospital, Children’s Hospital and Gulab Devi Hospital. He also directed to remove encroachments outside the properties on Ferozepur Road and upgrade the facade.
He said that encroachments and illegal parking should also be removed in collaboration with the district administration. He directed to install a sample of property upgradation on the Ferozepur Road.
He also reviewed the ongoing works under sustainable development on Khayaban Jinnah in Johar Town. Work on footpaths and property upgradation on a sustainable model was under way around the junction. Later, he also visited Boulevard Garden Town and Khursheed Kasuri Road. Project Director, Director Architect and officers concerned were present on the occasion.
