Rawalpindi:Law enforcement agencies detained more than 100 Afghans and suspicious persons during a search operation in different areas of Rawalpindi and Islamabad late last night.
During the operation involving Rawalpindi and Islamabad police, Rangers, CTD, Lady Police and intelligence agencies, more than 150 houses were searched in different areas. The police detained more than 100 Afghan citizens and suspects. The operation was carried out in Tarnol, Sadiqabad, Dhok Kala Khan, Ittehad Colony and areas adjacent to the Islamabad Expressway.
In a joint search operation in Dhok Kashmirian area of Sadiqabad police station in Rawalpindi and its surroundings, 120 people, 50 houses, 15 vehicles and 10 motorcycles were checked. During the operation, 11 people were found without rent certificates, who were released after being directed to register and warned. Similarly, during house-to-house checking in Ittehad Colony area of Tarnol police station 570 people were screened and a total of 51 arrests, including 16 Afghan nationals, were made.
According to police officials, search operations are ongoing in phases in view of the law and order situation. Citizens should ensure tenancy registration. Islamabad-Rawalpindi police have set up a joint security mechanism under which the police of the twin cities have also established joint pickets with mutual cooperation, while sensitive places and important highways are being monitored through Safe City cameras. Strict surveillance is being carried out on the entrance and exit routes of the twin cities. Police officials appealed to citizens to immediately inform the police about any suspicious activity and keep an eye on their surroundings.
