Murderer awarded death sentence

Rawalpindi:The Rawalpindi Sessions Court has sentenced an accused to death and the other to life imprisonment in a murder case, attempt to murder and damage.

The court has also sentenced both the accused to a total fine of Rs2 million, Rs1 million in damages and Rs1 million in surety under various sections. The Chontra police station had registered a case against Rifat Mahmood and Muhammad Banaras Khan in July 2023 under other sections including murder and attempt to murder, alleging that the accused had opened fire over a house dispute, killing a citizen and injuring another.

On completion of the trial, the court sentenced Rifat Mahmood to death for the crime of murder and life imprisonment for the crime of attempt to murder, while the co-accused was sentenced to life imprisonment for the crime of attempt to murder. The court has also ordered the heirs of the deceased to pay Rs1 million in compensation each, while both the accused have been sentenced to a fine of Rs1 million each and the court has sentenced the accused named Banaras to a fine of Rs1m each.
