Islamabad:Encouraging students across Pakistan to seize what he described as a premier opportunity for academic and professional growth, Executive Director of the United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) Dr Peter Moran on Thursday announced that applications have opened for the 2027 Fulbright Student Programme.
He said the fully-funded scholarship programme would enable selected Pakistani students to pursue graduate studies at leading universities in the United States. Funded by the US government in partnership with the government of Pakistan, the merit-based Fulbright scholarship covers tuition, living expenses, health insurance and round-trip air travel, according to him.
The Fulbright Student Programme evaluates candidates not only on academic performance and test scores but also on leadership potential and their commitment to contributing to Pakistan’s development in ways that support broader bilateral cooperation.
The programme is open to applicants from all academic disciplines with the deadline set for April 1, 2026, with particular encouragement for students in sciences, technology, artificial intelligence, trade, economics and natural resource management. Clinical medicine is not included, though non-clinical public health candidates are eligible to apply.
US Embassy Islamabad Director of Public Engagement Heidi Smith described Fulbright as one of the United States’ most enduring exchange initiatives. “The scholarship programme invests in future leaders, entrepreneurs and change-makers while strengthening educational and cultural ties between the two countries," he said. The USEFP said since 2005, more than 3,000 Pakistani students had received Fulbright scholarships for graduate study in the United States.
It added that Mlmany alumni were serving in public institutions, academia, business and technology sectors, contributing to economic growth and research collaboration between Pakistan and the United States.
Established in 1950, the USEFP said it was a bi-national commission created by the governments of Pakistan and the United States to promote mutual understanding through educational exchange.
