A woman gave birth to a baby girl aboard the Rehman Baba Express during its journey, following a prompt response by railway police and onboard doctors, officials said on Wednesday. Both the mother and the newborn are reported to be in stable condition.

According to the Karachi Railway Police, the incident occurred when the Rehman Baba Express (Train No. 47-Up), traveling from Karachi Cantonment to Tando Adam, was halted at the Dhabeji station due to an engine fault. During the delay, a female passenger travelling in coach number 08 went into labor and required urgent medical assistance.

Head Constable Shoaib Raza, who was part of the train’s security detail, immediately alerted medical professionals. Fortunately, doctors travelling on the train responded without delay and provided initial medical care, successfully assisting in the delivery under challenging conditions.

After the delivery, doctors advised that the woman was not fit to continue her journey. On the request of the Railway Police, a Rescue 1122 ambulance was dispatched to the spot. With the consent of her family, the mother and newborn were shifted to Korangi Hospital for further medical treatment and observation.

Railway police officials confirmed that both the mother and the baby girl were safe and receiving medical care at the hospital. Family members and fellow passengers appreciated the timely assistance provided by the railway police and medical staff.
