Untrained teachers

I am writing to draw attention to a serious problem affecting the future of our country. In many schools across Pakistan, there is a severe lack of trained teachers, making it difficult for children to receive quality education. According to Pakistan Education Statistics 2023, nearly 30 per cent of teachers in public schools lack professional training in modern teaching methods. In some districts, particularly in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, this number is even higher. Many teachers are hired based on basic qualifications without formal training in pedagogy, classroom management or modern educational tools.

While many people work as teachers, a significant number have not received professional training. In rural areas, the situation is even worse, with severe shortages and limited resources. Government reports indicate that teacher shortages in rural schools exceed 40 per cent, leaving thousands of classrooms without qualified instructors. If teachers are not properly trained, children will struggle to compete in the job market or contribute meaningfully to national development. I urge the government to launch a national teacher training programme with regular workshops and district-level training centres. The hiring process must also be made stricter so that only prepared individuals enter classrooms.
