CHITRAL: A US national hunted a Kashmir markhor in Chitral under the trophy hunting programme, officials said on Wednesday.
The hunt took place in the Toshi Shasha Community-Managed Game Reserve, where the American hunter shot a 49-inch-horned markhor from a distance of 510 metres. The hunter paid $270,000 for the hunting permit.
Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Wildlife Chitral, Farooq Nabi, confirmed the hunt, adding that the American citizen did not want his name disclosed to the media. He said Chitral had been allocated four markhor hunting permits for the current season.Officials said the revenue generated from trophy hunting is shared with local communities and used for wildlife conservation and community development projects in the region.
