DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The police in Dera Ismail Khan on Wednesday foiled an attempt to smuggle a large consignment of weapons from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Balochistan and arrested a smuggler red-handed during an operation.

Talking to reporters at Ejaz Shaheed Police Lines, District Police Officer (DPO) Sajjad Ahmed Sahibzada said that the Suburban Circle Police, under the supervision of SDPO Kashif Sattar and SHO Asghar Khan Wazir, acted on a tip-off about arms smuggling in a double-cabin pickup.

He said police set up a checkpoint on the Dera-Bannu Road and intercepted a silver-coloured double-cabin pickup coming from Peshawar towards Dera Ismail Khan. During a search, he said, a huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from hidden compartments of the vehicle. The recovered weapons included three SMGs, 39 pistols of .30 bore, five Mauser-style .30 bore pistols and two M4 rifles.
