Dear Editor,

In this week’s (10 April) issue, ‘Conflict and Consequences’ by Ruqia Khan Nasar was a mature summation of the effects of the US–Iran war on the world in general, and Pakistan in particular, and I appreciate that Us carries such educational articles for the youth. As a teacher of high school students, I always recommend my students read Us, as it offers educational, recreational, and literary articles for its young readers. I especially encourage my students to read the poems published in the section ‘Poets’ Corner’.

Hello Ed,

I would like to praise Asif Khan for entertaining us with interviews of TV artists and models. I would also like to read interviews of our sports personalities. I miss the time when the ‘Ground Reality’ section used to appear at least twice a month, and I also miss the centre spreads of famous people in Us.

Questioning is not disrespect

Dear Editor,

I was ten years old when I got my first phone. I had questions - big ones. I asked my elders. I asked my teachers. Nobody answered. So YouTube became my teacher.

I am 21 years old, but I also speak for younger ones - the 16- and 18-year-olds who sit with their phones every day, searching for answers that nobody around them is ready to give. My generation grew up with the Internet. We watch, we read, we compare, and we think. Today, young Pakistanis are asking questions about old traditions, and even about certain religious matters that were never properly explained to us. Nobody taught us; they simply told us to follow. This is not disrespect. It is simply a young mind trying to understand.

The truth is, Islam has always encouraged learning and asking questions. So why are we being silenced when we do exactly that? When young people ask honest questions and receive anger in return, they do not stop questioning - they simply stop trusting the people around them. Our elders and scholars must speak to us calmly and clearly. Because an unanswered question does not disappear: it simply grows louder.
