Pakistan witnessed a landmark sporting moment as the first-ever ACTIVIT Margalla Marka-e-Haq Triathlon 2026 was successfully held in Islamabad on Marka-e-Haq Day, introducing Olympic and Sprint-style triathlon competition to the country for the very first time.

The event brought together local and international athletes who competed in swimming, cycling and running disciplines, reflecting a growing shift in Pakistan’s sporting culture toward endurance sports, fitness and international-standard competition.

Widely regarded as Pakistan’s leading triathlete, Shahrez Khan emerged as the individual champion, further strengthening his reputation as one of the country’s premier endurance athletes. The Pakistan Army team secured victory in the team category, while Saltanat Sambina won the Women’s Sprint Solo title. In other events, Evgenii Yusyuk claimed the Olympic Solo crown, while Enub Khan won the five-kilometre fun race ahead of Mona Khan.

Jointly organised by the Margalla Trail Runners and ACTIVIT, the triathlon is being viewed as a major breakthrough for endurance sports in Pakistan. Beyond competition, the event also carried symbolic importance due to its association with Marka-e-Haq Day.

Speaking on the occasion, ACTIVIT Ambassador Moazzam Khan Klair described the triathlon as a reflection of unity, resilience and national spirit. He praised the determination of participants and highlighted the contributions of civilians, organisers, volunteers, medical teams and sports communities in ensuring the event’s success.

“All participants showed exceptional endurance and discipline. The event was not only a competition but a message of unity, strength and perseverance,” he said. Moazzam also credited Rd. Rizwan Aftab Ahmed for sponsoring the event and supporting the promotion of endurance sports in Pakistan.

Globally, triathlon is considered one of the most demanding Olympic sports, requiring elite-level stamina, mental resilience and tactical discipline across three separate disciplines. Introducing such a format in Pakistan is therefore a major step toward diversifying the country’s sporting identity.

For decades, Pakistan’s sports development remained heavily dependent on a limited number of disciplines. Events like the ACTIVIT Margalla Triathlon indicate that a younger generation of athletes is now embracing fitness-focused and endurance-based sports with increasing enthusiasm.

The successful hosting of the ACTIVIT Margalla Triathlon demonstrated that Pakistan is gradually expanding beyond traditional sports and creating opportunities for athletes in modern international disciplines. More importantly, it signaled the arrival of triathlon culture in the country, a development that could inspire a new generation of endurance athletes in the years ahead.
