LAHORE: Following the merger of the Population Department in the Health Department, the Punjab government has formally placed 6,553 grade-1-18 regular employees of Directorate General Population Welfare Office at the strength of the surplus pool from July 1, first day of new financial year 2026-27.
On June 15, 2026, the Services and General Administration Department (S&GAD) issued a notification, copy of which is available with The News, to this effect. The Punjab government notified the Punjab Population Welfare Department’s merger into the Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department in March 2025 creating a new unified department titled “Punjab Health and Population Department”. In April 2025, the Punjab Assembly also issued a notification of dissolution of Standing Committee on Population Welfare and change of nomenclature of Standing Committee on Primary & Secondary Healthcare renaming it as “Standing Committee on Health and Population”.
