HYDERABAD: Muharram-ul-Haram is being observed across Sindh with religious devotion and respect as in previous years.

Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said this on Wednesday while talking to the media at Raval House in Hyderabad. He said the Sindh government had made all necessary arrangements for Muharram processions, including special measures along the routes of mourning processions.

He added that both the Shia and Sunni communities in Sindh observed Muharram with respect and religious spirit. He called for learning lessons from the tragedy of Karbala. Memon said he would visit different areas of Hyderabad to review arrangements made for Muharram.

Responding to a question about possible security threats, the information minister said the government had taken necessary security measures. Talking about the provincial budget, he said the opposition had not even properly read the budget before criticising it. He added that there certainly were challenges as the provinces were receiving a reduced share, which would affect the development portfolio.

He maintained that there had been no cut in the National Finance Commission share. Memon also criticised the federal government saying a great injustice had been done with Sindh. He said Karachi handled the country’s major import and export activities, yet there was still no motorway from Karachi to Sukkur.

He added that the province contributing the highest taxes had been ignored by the federal government. Commenting on the Sindh government’s performance, he said more than 3,000 kilometres of roads had been constructed in the province.

On the condition of the Hyderabad-Sukkur road, he said travelling on the route was so difficult that one felt like travelling in an ambulance. Responding to a question about the possible release of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, Memon said he prayed for his release. He also dismissed rumours about changes in the Sindh government, saying such discussions were only circulating on YouTube.
