A judicial magistrate on Wednesday remanded the main suspect allegedly involved in a Rs300 million cash van heist in police custody for seven days.
Armed men had stolen Rs300 million from a cash van of a private security company in Federal B Area Block 14 within the jurisdiction of the Jauharabad police station on June 12. On Tuesday, the police announced the arrest of suspect Mohammed Ali, alias Ali Langra, said to be the mastermind of the Rs300m robbery.
The investigation officer (IO) produced the suspect before a District Central judicial magistrate and sought his 14-day physical remand for interrogation. The IO stated that Rs200 million of the stolen cash had been recovered from the suspect along with two vehicles used in the robbery. He said that the suspect was required to be interrogated about the crime for the arrest of his accomplices.
After hearing the IO, the magistrate remanded the suspect in police custody for seven days with a direction to the officer to‘produce him on completion of his remand along with a report.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, West Zone police chief Irfan Baloch had said Ali was the leader of an inter-provincial gang allegedly involved in dozens of bank robberies across Pakistan. He said the suspect had planned the robbery and hidden the stolen cash at two separate houses.
He said the gang comprised over a dozen members and had allegedly been involved in numerous bank robberies in major cities across the country, including Karachi, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Quetta and Multan.
