The Crime Control Department (CCD) said that the suspect in the attempted rape and murder case of seven-year-old Muntaha Zahra was killed in a firing by his own accomplices.
According to police, CCD officials were taking the suspect to recover a weapon allegedly used in the crime near the Jhal Chakian Canal bridge.
Police said that the associates of the suspect opened fire on the CCD team, leading to an exchange of fire during which the suspect was fatally shot by his own accomplices. The alleged attackers managed to escape, as per the law enforcers.
An investigation had been launched, and efforts were underway to trace those involved in the attack, said police.
The development comes a day after the minor girl was murdered inside a grocery store building during a rape attempt.
Police had arrested four suspects and produced them before Senior Civil Judge Chaudhry Imran Ali, who remanded them to police custody for six days for physical interrogation.
A spokesperson for the police said that the girl's father nominated the four suspects in the first information report registered over the incident.
