LAHORE:The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) Punjab has arrested an alleged fake faith healer from the provincial capital and recovered sensitive data of dozens of women, along with hundreds of objectionable videos and images, from his mobile devices.
According to officials, the suspect, identified as Ali Ahmed of Sanda, operated an electrical goods shop in Anarkali Bazaar. He had allegedly established an online network on social media under the guise of providing ‘spiritual healing’ and istikhara services. Investigators said the suspect used modern communication devices to contact women on the pretext of resolving their personal problems and allegedly obtained their personal information and photographs, which were later used for blackmailing.
A forensic examination of the suspect’s mobile phones led to the recovery of 763 objectionable videos, 1,338 images and personal data belonging to around 40 women. So far, 19 affected women have been identified through their names and phone numbers, while efforts are underway to trace the remaining victims. The authorities also recovered two mobile phones, internet routers and a book related to istikhara from the suspect’s possession. NCCIA Punjab Director M Ali Wasim said strict action would be taken against those involved in exploiting women and that all available resources would be utilised to ensure exemplary punishment. He urged citizens, particularly women, to remain vigilant on social media and avoid trusting individuals making online spiritual claims.
