LAHORE:Pakistan is going to host the Asian Buffalo Congress (ABC) after a gap of 18 years, marking an important milestone for the country’s livestock, buffalo and dairy sectors. The 12th Asian Buffalo Congress and Dairy Asia Expo-2027 are scheduled to be held on October 14-16, 2027.
In this regard, the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Masood Rabbani chaired the first meeting on Wednesday. Punjab Agriculture, Food & Drug Authority DG Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha, Prof Emeritus Dr Nasim Ahmad, DG Extension L&DD Punjab Dr Syed Nadeem Badar, President Asian Buffalo Association Prof Dr M Ijaz, conveners and secretaries of various committees, representatives from the Livestock and Dairy Development Department and organisers of Dairy Asia Expo attended the meeting.
Briefing the meeting, the ABA president said that the Asian Buffalo Congress will be integrated with the Dairy Asia Expo to strengthen the connection between research, academia, industry, farmers, entrepreneurs, policymakers and other key stakeholders. Detailed deliberations were held on the proposed theme of the congress, official logo and development of the official website.
The meeting also discussed financial management, resource mobilization, sponsorship opportunities and strategies to ensure maximum participation of international delegates, scientists, industry representatives, and livestock professionals.
The participants suggested that major livestock-related activities such as buffalo milk and beauty competitions may be linked with the congress to enhance public engagement, promote indigenous livestock breeds and showcase Pakistan’s rich livestock and dairy potential at the international level.
The participants expressed their commitment to making the Asian Buffalo Congress and Dairy Asia Expo-2027 a landmark international event for promoting buffalo research, dairy innovation, industry-academia linkages and sustainable livestock development in Pakistan and across the region.
