The District Central police have arrested the alleged mastermind of the high-profile robbery of a private security company’s cash van committed in Jauharabad on June 12, and recovered Rs200 million of the Rs300 million looted.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday alongside District Central police chief Dr Imran Khan, West Zone police chief Irfan Baloch said Ali, alias Ali Langra, is said to be the leader of an inter-provincial gang allegedly involved in dozens of bank robberies across Pakistan. Police also impounded a Vigo pickup and a Pixis car allegedly used in the crime.
DIG Baloch said that a special investigation team had been formed immediately after the incident. Police found that Wajid, son of Mir Lala, the chief crewmember of the cash van, was allegedly involved in the robbery. A case was registered at the Jauharabad police station under FIR No. 201/2026.
Police said the operation led to the arrest of Ali and the recovery of Rs200 million. They said the suspect had planned the robbery and hidden the stolen cash at two separate houses. Officials said the gang comprises over a dozen members and has allegedly been involved in numerous bank robberies in major cities across the country, including Karachi, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Quetta and Multan.
The DIG said that the prime suspect Ali had been serving as the gang’s Karachi-based leader, while other members remained active in different cities. Originally from Swat, the suspect had reportedly been living in Karachi for several years and had allegedly led multiple robberies.
Police records show that the suspect had been arrested in several cases, including bank robberies, locker-breaking incidents involving gold jewellery and foreign currency theft, as well as other armed robbery cases registered in Karachi and Rawalpindi.
Police said that several accomplices, believed to be from Parachinar, remain at large along with the remaining stolen money. They also alleged that a security guard had been involved in the robbery and recruited into the security setup beforehand.
DIG Baloch said that special teams have been formed to arrest the remaining suspects and recover the remaining amount. Further investigations are under way to determine the full extent of the gang’s activities and identify all the individuals involved.
